Both Martha and Mary were real people with real emotions: they both wondered why Jesus didn’t come sooner to save their brother’s life. But Martha struggled to be vulnerable with Jesus. She was angry, hurt, disappointed, and withdrawn. Mary poured her heart out to Jesus, and Jesus and Mary wept together for her brother Lazarus. Their hearts became one. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you (James 4.8).
